KUPWARA, MARCH 8: International Women’s Day was today celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour across the Kupwara district, highlighting the invaluable contributions of women in society and promoting gender equality.
The main function was held at Town Hall Kupwara in which huge number of women from different walks of life took part and shared their valuable thoughts. The function was presided over by ADC Kupwara, Mohd Rouf Rehman. DDC Member Drugmulla, Ms. Amina Majeed; CEO Kupwara, Mehraj-u-din Shah and other officer from administration and women from different departments including ICDS, Education, Social Welfare, One Stop Centre and others were present in the function.
Speaking at the occasion, the ADC said that the aim of celebrating the International Women’s Day is to empower the women and give them due respect so that they can develop in the society like their couterparts that is men. He highlighted the importance of women folk in efficiently handling majority of affairs of life from household chores to civil administration and other big jobs. He emphasized that the women should get familiar about their rights and duties so that they can live a dignified life in the society.
The ADC also assured all possible support from the District Administration to the women in resolving their grievances.
DDC Member, Ms. Amina also spoke and expressed delight over the presence of the big gathering of the women and said that the gathering itself signifies the women empowerment. She glorified the role of women in different jobs and spheres of life.
During the function various women speakers shared their thoughts to honor the achievements of women from different walks of life. They emphasized the need for grassroot awareness about the rights of women which shall empower them in fighting for their rights and live a dignified life.
Meanwhile, Awards and Certificates of appreciation were also distributed among women achievers who have shown their best performance in administration and other services.
International Women’s Day were also celebrated in Blocks, Tehsils, Panchayats and sub divisions where officers and various influential speakers commemorated the role and contribution of women folk in different fields of life across the globe. On the occasion, various awareness programmes were held and the women participants were sensitized about their rights and duties. Awareness about grievance redressal mechanism were also discussed to protect the women folk from crimes and violence against them.
International Women’s Day was also celebrated in all schools and colleges of district Kupwara during which seminars and debates were held to raise the awareness about gender equity and respect towards women folk.
