SRINAGAR, March 30: State-owned Telecom Company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has claimed that installation of mobile towers at 448 locations in J&K is in progress to bring the areas under 4G coverage which are not covered yet. BSNL Assistant General Manager (Administration and Human Resources) says in an RTI Filed By Dr M M Shuja, that after the completion of this project, BSNL network will be available in all regions of the Valley.
State-owned Telecommunication Company BSNL has failed to provide 4G facilities; As a result, consumers are leaving this company. As a result of non-availability of high-speed internet facilities, BSNL had to lose around 15 thousand customers and 11 crore rupees during the last 5 years.
The company has 19 thousand 203 landline broadband users in the valley in 2019, but in December 2023, their number was only 4828. According to the available data, the number of broadband BSNL landline users was 18 369 in December 2020, which decreased to 14 thousand 2022 in December 2021 and 7623 in December 2022. In this way, the income also saw an decrease, as a result of which in the financial year 2020-21, where BSNL broadband 13.78 crore rupees have been paid from the customers, it has reached to 2 crore 19 lakh rupees till the end of December in the current financial year. BSNL received Rs 6.44 crore from landline broadband in the financial year 2021-22 and Rs 3.90 crore in the previous financial year 2023.
BSNL says that currently 490 mobile towers are active and working in the valley, while the number of inactive towers is 23, including 11 towers of Yatra, 5 towers of the seventh phase and 7 towers of HiTL. 2588 landlines of BSNL have been installed in government departments, central departments, semi-autonomous departments of Central and Centrally Administered Regions and other government institutions.
Government sponsored financial support continues to make this institution active. In the financial year 2019-20, 3.75 crore rupees were provided, while the institution spent 82.33 crore rupees for voluntary retirement, while in the financial year 2020-21, a budget of 72.09 crore rupees was given. in which 63.44 crores were spent. In the fiscal year 2021-22, a budget of 72.09 crores was approved for BSNL, in which 66.93 crores of rupees were disbursed, in the same fiscal year 2022-23, 69.12 crores in the budget of 86.5 crores and 63.44 crores in the revised budget of 63.2 crores for the financial year 2023-24.
